Release of a final report on the joint project between the IAEA and Japan with regard to marine monitoring
Japan and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) carried out a project from 2014 to 2016 as one of the measures for the contaminated water management at TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station to ensure the international transparency and credibility of marine monitoring data offshore Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.
Within this project, the joint sampling missions of sea water, sediment and fish by the IAEA and Japan, and interlaboratory comparisons (ILCs)1 among laboratories in the IAEA, Europe, Japan and other countries were organized in 2014 – 2016. / Japanese (PDF)) that Japan's sample collection procedures are appropriate and a high level of accuracy and competence on the part of Japanese laboratories involved in the analyses of radionuclide in marine samples is demonstrated.

The purpose of the ILCs is to check if laboratories’ testing methods for radioactive material are appropriate, by comparing analytical method and results between laboratories, using the identical sample during all the process from sampling to analysis.
