Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism (GICNT) Plenary Meeting

1. The Government of Japan will hold the Plenary Meeting of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism (GICNT) in Tokyo on June 1 and 2. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Kentaro Sonoura will deliver a keynote address on behalf of the Government of Japan.
2. The GICNT was launched by the United States and the Russian Federation in 2006. More than 200 representatives from approximately 75 countries, including the U.S. and Russian co-chairs, as well as four international organizations will attend this year’s Plenary Meeting.
3. During the Plenary, senior government officials in charge of nuclear security will discuss ways to strengthen efforts to combat nuclear terrorism, one of the challenges against international peace and security.
