Japan-United States Non-Proliferation Dialogue

1. The Japan-United States Non-Proliferation Dialogue was held on May 23 and 24 in Tokyo. Mr. Masahiro Kawasaki, Deputy Director-General of Disarmament, Non-Proliferation and Science Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Yoichi Iida, Director-General of Trade Control Department, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, represented Japan, and Ms. Ann K. Ganzer, Deputy Assistant Secretary (Acting), Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation, U.S. Department of State, represented the United States.

2. This dialogue is one of the several meetings between Japan and the United States held every year to address the threat posed by the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery.

3. The two countries exchanged their views on a wide range of non-proliferation issues, including North Korea’s nuclear and missile issue and the implementation of United Nations Security Council resolution 2321 (PDF)Open a New Window. Both sides agreed to continue this dialogue.
