Japan-United States Non-Proliferation Dialogue

1. Japan-United States Non-Proliferation Dialogue was held on May 11 and 12 in Tokyo.

2. Mr. Yoshitoshi Nakamura, Deputy Director-General of Disarmament, Non-Proliferation and Science Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Shuzo Takada, Director-General of Trade Control Department, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, represented Japan, and Mr. Vann Van Diepen, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation, U.S. Department of State, represented the United States.

3. This dialogue is one of the several meetings between Japan and the United States held every year to address the threat posed by the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery.

4. At the dialogue, both countries exchanged their views on a wide range of non-proliferation issues, including nuclear and missile issues of North Korea, such as the implementation of United Nations Security Council resolution 2270 (PDF)Open a New Window. Both sides confirmed that the two countries will continue this dialogue.
