Japan-Kyrgyz Foreign Ministers’ Meeting



On March 30, commencing at around 3:30 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Erlan Abdyldaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, who is visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
Also, the signing ceremonies for Grant Aid for the “Project for Avalanche Protection on Bishkek-Osh Road” and the “Project for Improvement of Workshops for Road Maintenance Equipment” took place between the foreign ministers before the Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
1. Foreign Minister Kishida expressed his pleasure at being able to welcome Foreign Minister Abdyldaev on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Kyrgyz Republic, referring to his own visit to the Kyrgyz Republic in 2014, and stated that Japan will continue to support the democratization efforts of the Kyrgyz Republic, with which Japan shares democracy as a basic value.
2. In response, Foreign Minister Abdyldaev expressed appreciation for Japan’s assistance over the years, including the Grant Aid whose Notes were signed on the same day. In addition, the Foreign Minister presented concrete proposals for elevating the bilateral relationship to a new level, including prevention and combating natural disasters, promotion of quality infrastructure as well as cooperation in the transportation sectors.
3. The foreign ministers exchanged views with regard to regional cooperation through the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue, cooperation in the international fora, among other matters.
