Meeting between Foreign Minister, Fumio Kishida and the Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz



On November 28, commencing at 5:50 p.m. Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, welcomed H.E. Mr. Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz, Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of the Republic of Cuba, who had visited Japan to attend the Second Japan-Cuba Public-Private Joint Committee.
1. At the beginning, Minister Kishida renewed his condolences over the passing of Mr. Fidel Castro, former President of the Council of State of Cuba, on November 25( local time). Minister Kishida, as the person who launched the Public-Private Joint Committee with H.E. Bruno Eduardo Rodríguez, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Cuba, during his visit to Cuba last year, was pleased to receive thr visit of Minister Malmierca, who had come to Japan in order to attend the first meeting of the Committee held in Japan. Minister Kishida stated that he had informed by Mr. Kentaro Sonoura, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, who attended the Committee that fruitful discussions took place on developing business environment and advancing economic relations. Minister Kishida expressed his expectation to work together to expand trade and investment between the two countries based on the discussions at this meeting.
2. In response, Minister Malmierca reported that the second meeting of the Japan-Cuba Public-Private Joint Committee ended successfully, and appreciated opportunities to hold, on this occasion, dialogue with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI)
, and Japanese private companies. He expressed his will to contribute to strengthening economic ties with an important partner, Japan.
