Former Executive at the Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corporation to be Appointed as the OECD/NEA’s Deputy Director-General for Legal Affairs and Strategic Resources

1. On September 3 (the same day, CEST), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development / Nuclear Energy Agency (OECD/NEA) announced that it will appoint Mr. Masahiko Fujihara, former Executive at the Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corporation, as its Deputy Director-General for Legal Affairs and Strategic Resources.

2. The OECD/NEA is a specialized agency of the OECD whose goal is to develop the scientific, technological and legal bases required for the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, through promoting cooperation among the governments of its member countries. The NEA provides member states with opportunities to exchange opinions about nuclear safety, nuclear generation, waste disposal, radiation protection and nuclear damage compensation, and also manages a data bank.

3. The Government of Japan intends to continue to actively cooperate with and contribute to the NEA’s activities by making financial contributions to the NEA as well as by dispatching Japan’s outstanding personnel to it. Mr. Fujihara as a nuclear specialist is expected to contribute to greater vitalization and optimization of the NEA’s activities.
