Fourth Japan- EU High-level Policy Dialogue for Development Cooperation
1. Japan and EU held Fourth High-level Policy Dialogue for Development Cooperation on Monday, July 27 in Tokyo, Japan.
2. Headed respectively by Mr. Kimihiro Ishikane, Director-General of International Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Mr. Fernando Frutuoso de Melo, Director General for International Cooperation and Development for the European Commission, officials from the both sides discussed possibilities of expanding cooperation in the area of common interest on the basis of the outcome of the 23rd Japan-EU Summit Meeting held in May.
3. Japan and EU recognized the importance of coordination at multilateral fora such as the UN, G20, and OECD, including that for formulating the post 2015 development agenda. The both parties also exchanged views on global issues ranging from gender equality and women’s empowerment, global health, to post-Ebola recovery assistance, as well as development challenges in Asia and Africa including quality infrastructure development, reaffirming continued partnerships in these areas.
4. Japan and EU agreed to have the next High-level Policy Dialogue for Development Cooperation next year at a convenient timing for both sides.
