The Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka to Visit Japan

1. Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, will visit Japan from June 17 till 20 as a Guest of the Minister for Foreign Affairs.

2. Taking this opportunity, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, will hold the Japan-Sri Lanka Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with Hon. Minister Samaraweera. At this meeting, the two Ministers will exchange views on issues such as the promotion of bilateral cooperation for strengthening and expanding the ‘New Partnership between Maritime Countries’, and cooperation in the field of peace-building in Sri Lanka.

3. Hon. Minister Samaraweera will also deliver a speech on peacebuilding and national reconciliation based on the experience of Sri Lanka at ‘High-Level Seminar on Peacebuilding, National Reconciliation and Democratization in Asia’ to be held on June 20.

On June 20, 2015, a “High-Level Seminar on Peacebuilding, National Reconciliation and Democratization in Asia” will be held at the United Nations University in Tokyo.

Foreign Minister Kishida will deliver the keynote address at the conference, which will be chaired by Mr. Yasushi Akashi, Representative of the Government of Japan on Peace-Building, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Sri Lanka.
