“High-Level Seminar on Peacebuilding, National Reconciliation and Democratization in Asia”

1. On June 20, 2015, a “High-Level Seminar on Peacebuilding, National Reconciliation and Democratization in Asia” will be held at the United Nations University in Tokyo.

2. The Seminar will be attended by officials and experts from government, international organizations and academia who have been involved in the area of peacebuilding, national reconciliation and democratization in Asian countries. They will exchange views on lessons learned from Asian experiences and share their insight with the audience.

3. Foreign Minister Kishida will deliver the keynote address at the conference, which will be chaired by Mr. Yasushi Akashi, Representative of the Government of Japan on Peace-Building, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Sri Lanka. Many eminent figures from abroad are also expected to participate in the seminar, including: H.E. Dr. José Ramos-Horta, Former President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste(High-Level Independent Panel on UN Peace Operations); and H.E. Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, Former Secretary-General of ASEAN. From Japan, participants will include: Mr. Yohei Sasakawa, Special Envoy of the Government of Japan for National Reconciliation in Myanmar ; Dr. Akihiko Tanaka, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA); and Dr. Takashi Shiraishi, President of the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies.
