Statement by Foreign Press Secretary Kawamura on the re-appointment of Mr. Ángel Gurría, Secretary-General of the OECD for his Third Term

May 26, 2015

1. On May 26, the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) held its Council meeting at its headquarters and adopted by consensus the resolution to re-appoint of Mr. Ángel Gurría as the Secretary-General of the OECD for his third term.

2. Japan appreciates significant contribution made by the Secretary-General for enhancing the OECD’s presence and relevance. When Secretary-General Gurría visited Japan on April 15 this year, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe directly expressed his support of the renewal of his mandate and thus Japan welcomes the decision made by the OECD’s Council.

3. Japan will further strengthen and develop cooperation with the OECD, “the largest think tank of the world” and a “global standard setter” of the world economy, in cooperation with the Secretary-General.
