Fourth Meeting of the New Japan-China Friendship Committee for the 21st Century to be Held
1. A meeting of the New Japan-China Friendship Committee for the 21st Century will be held in Beijing and Xian from Wednesday, December 3, to Friday, December 5.
2. From the Japanese side, Mr. Taizo Nishimuro, Chair (President and CEO, Japan Post Holdings Co., Ltd. and Adviser to the Board, Toshiba Corporation), and others will attend the meeting. From the Chinese side, Mr. Tang Jiaxuan, Chair (President, China-Japan Friendship Association and former State Councilor), and others will attend the meeting.
3. During the meeting, intellectuals from Japan and China will exchange views how to improve and deepen Japan-China relations.
[Reference] New Japan-China Friendship Committee for the 21st Century
(1) A committee of intellectuals of Japan and China for discussing the relations from a broad perspective including politics, economy, culture, science and technology and for making a proposal and report to the government leaders of both countries in order to further develop Japan-China relations for the 21st Century. The Committee was established in 1984 as the Japan-China Friendship Committee for the 21st Century as a result of a consensus between then Prime Minister of Japan Yasuhiro Nakasone and then Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Hu Yaobang. The Japan-China Friendship Committee for the 21st Century held 15 full meetings by 2001.
(2) From 2003 to 2008, eight meetings were held as the “New Japan-China Friendship Committee for the 21st Century.”
(3) In November 2009, members for the second term of the New Japan-China Friendship Committee for the 21st Century were decided at the Japan-China Foreign Ministers’ meeting (Chairperson from the Japanese side: Mr. Taizo Nishimuro, President and CEO, Japan Post Holdings Co., Ltd. and Adviser to the Board, Toshiba Corporation. Chairperson from the Chinese side: Tang Jiaxuan, Chairman of China-Japan Friendship Association and former State Councilor. Names of the other committee members are attached). Past meetings are as follows:

(4) The fourth meeting, which had been originally scheduled to be held in Tokyo and Nagasaki in November 2012, was to be rearranged so that the meeting would be held at an appropriate time.
