The 30th Anniversary of the Missile Technology Control Regime
April 17, 2017
- April 16 marks 30 years since the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) was established in 1987.
- Since its inception, the MTCR has played an important role in preventing proliferation of missiles capable of delivering weapons of mass destruction as well as related equipment and technologies. Japan has actively participated in the MTCR's activities, including as a two-time chair of the Regime.
- Japan will continue to contribute to the strengthening of the MTCR's efforts to prevent proliferation of missile technologies, as North Korea's ballistic missile launches pose a new level of threat.
