Video Message from Minister of Foreign Affairs HAYASHI
at the International Symposium Commemorating the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation in Jakarta

  1. On July 25, Foreign Minister HAYASHI Yoshimasa issued a video message at the occasion of an international symposium co-hosted by the Japan Foundation and the National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia (BRIN) in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia, to commemorate the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation. The following is a summary of the message.
  2. Minister Hayashi mentioned that the foundation of the current strong Japan-ASEAN relationship is based on the trust and respect established through a wide range of exchanges among peoples. He also stated that Japan would further promote attractive initiatives that would succeed the “WA project” by Japan Foundation.
  3. Minister Hayashi also said that in order to create "Golden Friendship, Golden Opportunities", which is the official catchphrase for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, it is important to facilitate the transmission of ideas and wisdom in addition to the movement of people and goods.
  4. In closing, Minister Hayashi noted that Japan and ASEAN will hold the Commemorative Summit in Tokyo this December, and called for this opportunity to create a vision for further Japan-ASEAN cooperation towards a more peaceful, stable and prosperous future for the Indo-Pacific region.

International Symposium Commemorating the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation in Jakarta on July 25-26.
Under the theme of "Mobility," experts from ASEAN and Japan discussed the impact and future shape of the movement of people, goods, and information in order to promote connectivity, socio-cultural collaboration, and growth between Japan and ASEAN.
Co-organized by the Japan Foundation and Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
