Video Message from Minister of Foreign Affairs HAYASHI
at the International Symposium Commemorating the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation in Jakarta
- On July 25, Foreign Minister HAYASHI Yoshimasa issued a video message at the occasion of an international symposium co-hosted by the Japan Foundation and the National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia (BRIN) in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia, to commemorate the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation. The following is a summary of the message.
- Minister Hayashi mentioned that the foundation of the current strong Japan-ASEAN relationship is based on the trust and respect established through a wide range of exchanges among peoples. He also stated that Japan would further promote attractive initiatives that would succeed the “WA project” by Japan Foundation.
- Minister Hayashi also said that in order to create "Golden Friendship, Golden Opportunities", which is the official catchphrase for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, it is important to facilitate the transmission of ideas and wisdom in addition to the movement of people and goods.
- In closing, Minister Hayashi noted that Japan and ASEAN will hold the Commemorative Summit in Tokyo this December, and called for this opportunity to create a vision for further Japan-ASEAN cooperation towards a more peaceful, stable and prosperous future for the Indo-Pacific region.

International Symposium Commemorating the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation in Jakarta on July 25-26.
Under the theme of "Mobility," experts from ASEAN and Japan discussed the impact and future shape of the movement of people, goods, and information in order to promote connectivity, socio-cultural collaboration, and growth between Japan and ASEAN.
