State Minister for Foreign Affairs Kazuyuki Nakane Meets with
the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania

1. State Minister Nakane welcomed the frequent high-level visits between Japan and Lithuania, and explained that he would like to further develop our bilateral relations. In response, Vice Minister Skusevicius stated that he would like to further strengthen the bilateral relations, utilizing the momentum created by the visit to Japan of H.E. Mr. Linas Linkevičius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, in May this year. Furthermore, the two sides welcomed the signing of the tax convention between Japan and Lithuania in July this year, and the commencement of discussions on introducing a working holiday programme this year.
2. State Minister Nakane explained that he would like to cooperate in order to maximize pressure on North Korea, including through the full implementation of relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. State Minister Nakane also requested for Lithuania’s understanding and cooperation towards prompt resolution of the abductions issue. In response, Vice Minister Skusevicius stated that North Korea’s nuclear and missile tests violated UNSC resolutions, and Lithuania was complying rigorously with the series of sanctions.
