Dispatch of an Expert to Indonesia in Response to Smoke Pollution (Haze)

1 On Thursday October 15, the Government of Japan had dispatched an expert to the Republic of Indonesia in response to their government's request for assistance in dealing with smoke pollution (haze) caused mainly by forest fires.
2 Since the middle of June, smoke damage caused by large-scale open field burning and forest fires in Sumatra and elsewhere in Indonesia has resulted in serious air pollution in the country and its neighbors. On October 11, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods (fire extinguishing agents) to the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, and the expert is expected to facilitate the smooth and effective utilization of the above mentioned relief goods.
