Fukuoka's average annual temperature is 16.2 degrees Centigrade (61 degrees Fahrenheit). The temperature is basically mild throughout the year, hitting a high of 27.6 degrees Centigrade (82 degrees Fahrenheit) in August and a low of 5.8 degrees Centigrade (42 degrees Fahrenheit) in January. Annual rainfall is 1,604.3mm (63 inches) and is at about the national average.


Population

Fukuoka Prefecture has a population of approximately 5-million, the ninth largest prefectural population in Japan. Fukuoka City and Kitakyushu City both have populations of over 1-million, and are two of Japan's twelve major cities which have been especially designated by a government ordinance allowing, among other things, prefectures to commission specific prefectural duties to the city.
