June 28, 2019
1 On June 28, Mrs. Akie Abe, spouse of the Prime Minister of Japan, hosted the first day of the G20 Summit Partners' Program in Osaka and Kyoto. In attendance of this program were the leaders’ partners from Argentina, Australia, Canada, European Union (EU Council), France, Indonesia, Mexico, Republic of Korea, Republic of South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, Viet Nam, Financial Stability Board (FSB), Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the World Bank.
2 Mrs. Abe first greeted the leaders’ partners at The Garden Oriental Osaka. Mrs. Abe and the partners then visited Tofuku-ji Temple in Kyoto. There, Chief Buddhist Priest Harada greeted the group, and they strolled through the temple grounds surrounded by early-summer green maple leaves. Then, Mrs. Abe hosted a welcome luncheon and teatime where the group was presented with cuisine featuring seasonal ingredients, followed by green tea made from leaves picked by Mrs. Abe from Tofuku-ji Temple’s own tea bushes. The afternoon was a display of Japanese hospitality and an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the charms of Japan's food culture.
