Japan-U.S. Summit Telephone Talk
On February 28, commencing at 7:30 p.m. for approximately 10 minutes, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit telephone talk with the Honorable Donald Trump, President of the United States of America. The overview of the talk is as follows.
1. At the outset, President Trump explained about the second U.S.-North Korea Summit. In response, Prime Minister Abe stated that the Government of Japan fully supports President Trump’s decision to urge North Korea to take concrete actions without making easy concessions, while at the same time continuing constructive discussion, with his strong determination to achieve the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
2. President Trump explained that, during his one-on-one meeting with Chairman Kim Jong Un on February 27, the President raised the abductions issues and clearly conveyed Prime Minister Abe’s thinking to the Chairman. In addition, the President Trump explained that at the dinner following that meeting serious discussion on the abductions issue was held between the two leaders.
3. Prime Minister Abe and President Trump shared the view that Japan and the United States will continue to cooperate more closely towards the resolution of the abductions, nuclear, and missile issues.
