Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk
On February 21, commencing at around 10:30 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers’ telephone talk with the Honorable Mike Pompeo, Secretary of State of the United States. The overview of the talk is as follows.
1. The two foreign ministers closely aligned their future policies towards the resolution of the abductions, nuclear, and missile issues prior to the second U.S.-North Korea Summit to be held on February 27 and 28, taking into account the Japan-U.S. summit telephone talk held on February 20 and the latest status of the U.S.-North Korea negotiations.
2. The two foreign ministers confirmed that they will continue to work together to the early resolution of the abductions issue, taking into account the discussion between the two leaders during the Japan-U.S. summit telephone talk on February 20.
3. Lastly, the two foreign ministers agreed to hold a Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers’ telephone talk after the second U.S.-North Korea Summit, and decided to coordinate the details. The two foreign ministers confirmed that the two countries will continue to cooperate closely at various levels both before and after the second U.S.-North Korea Summit.
