Japan-Egypt Foreign Ministers’ Meeting
On June 28, commencing at 4:50 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, who is visiting Japan to attend the G20 Osaka Summit. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
1. The two ministers confirmed that they work closely together for the success of G20 summit as well as TICAD 7 at the end of August. They also reached an agreement that they will work together to maintain and further strengthen the bilateral relationship.
 
2. Regarding the bilateral relationship, Minister Kono mentioned that he welcomes the steady progress of symbolic projects such as the Egypt-Japan Education Partnership (EJEP) and the construction of Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). Also he expressed Japan’s gratitude to the cooperation extended by Egypt for TICAD 7 and Japan’s high hope for Egyptian leadership as the Chair of the African Union.
 
3. Minister Shoukry mentinoned that he is satisfied with the current status of the bilateral relationship and that he welcomes Japan’s recent dispatch of two JSDF personnel to Multinaional Force and Observers (MFO) .
 
4. The two ministers exchanged views on the current situation of the Middle East region.
