Presentation of Credentials by Ambassador Maruyama to the Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority (ISA)
On January 26, 2026, Mr. MARUYAMA Kohei, Ambassador of Japan to Jamaica, presented his credentials to Ms. Leticia Carvalho, Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), as Permanent Representative of Japan to the ISA in Kingston, Jamaica.
Japan consistently attaches great importance to the rule of law at sea, and will continue to contribute to the ISA’s activities for the maintenance and development of the maritime order based on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). In particular, Japan places a strong emphasis on the development of the so-called “mining code” which strikes a reasonable balance between the protection and preservation of the marine environment and the exploitation of mineral resources in the deep seabed as the “common heritage of mankind”.
