Courtesy Call on Prime Minister Shinzo Abe by Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO)
On December 14, 2017, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), paid a courtesy call to Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, for approximately 20 minutes. The overview of the meeting is as follows;
1. Prime Minister Abe stated that it is an honor for Japan to co-host the UHC Forum 2017 with the WHO, and that since Universal Health Coverage(UHC) is one of the priority issues in its foreign policy, Japan would continue actively its cooperation with the WHO to promote UHC.
2. In response, Dr. Tedros Adhanom said that it was also a pleasure for WHO to co-host the forum and that multi-sectoral cooperation by many countries is needed to promote UHC. Dr. Tedros Adhanom also appreciated Japan’s engagement, including the G7 Summit and Prime Minister Abe’s leadership in the promotion of UHC and expressed wishes for further cooperation with Japan toward opportunities including the G20 in 2019.
