1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will co-organize UHC Forum 2017 at the Tokyo Prince Hotel on December 13 and 14, with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the World Bank, World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, UHC2030 and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The promotion of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is gaining global attention as one of the Goal 3 targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted at United Nations Sustainable Development Summit in September 2015 and expected to contribute to the preparation for public health crises such as the Ebola virus disease. Japan set global health as a key pillar (PDF) and showed visons concerning the promotion of UHC in the G7 Ise-Shima Summit in May 2016 and the Sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI) in August 2016.
3. This forum will be a great opportunity to discuss on concrete measures toward the achievement of these visions in countries such as enhancing the momentum on the global promotion of UHC, building and strengthening network for cooperation with aid agencies based on the ownership of countries, securing necessary financial resources and continuous monitoring. This forum will bring together a large number of high level health officials including the Government officials from various countries, officials on International Organizations, and other global health experts for discussions on reviewing and facilitating the progress on UHC in each country. Japan will proactively contribute to the achievement of UHC in each country through the discussions at this conference.
4. The Side Events will be organized by relevant organizations on December 12 and 15.
