Counter Terrorism

  1. The 11th ASEAN-Japan Counter-Terrorism Dialogue will be held on February 21 and 22 in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.
  2. The 11th Dialogue will be co-chaired by H.E. Mr. Eiji Yamamoto, Ambassador in charge of International Cooperation for Countering Terrorism and International Organized Crime; and Mr. Pengiran Muhamad Sazali Pengiran Yakob, Permanent Secretary [Security and Enforcement], the Prime Minister's Office, Brunei Darussalam. The Dialogue will be attended by officials from Japan, all the ASEAN Member States, the ASEAN Secretariat and some International Organizations.
  3. This Dialogue was launched in 2006 based on the decision made at the ASEAN-Japan Summit Meeting held in December 2005. It has been a forum to exchange views on the current situation related to terrorism and discuss various projects funded by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) which contribute to the region-wide counter-terrorism measures. At this Dialogue implementation of UNSCR 2396 addressing return and relocation of foreign terrorist fighters (FTFs) will be one of the main agendas.

The 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th Dialogues were held in June 2006 in Tokyo; September 2007 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; October 2008 in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR; August 2009 in Nha Trang, Vietnam; June 2010 in Bali, Indonesia; February 2011 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia; July 2012 in Cebu, Philippines; May 2013 in Bangkok, Thailand; May 2014 in Singapore; in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, respectively.
