Japan-Ireland Relations

The Steering Committee for Events Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Ireland (henceforth, “the Steering Committee”) encourages proposals for a wide range of events celebrating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ireland in 2027. Organisers of events will be entitled to use the official name ‘‘The 70th anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Ireland” in all publicity materials including posters, pamphlets, websites, signboards, and banners. The terms for the granting of official recognition are as follows:

Eligibility

  1. In principle, events should take place in Japan or Ireland between 1 January 2027 and 31 March 2028. (Note: Please consult with the Steering Committee if the event will be held before 31 December 2026)
  2. Events should aim to promote and strengthen Japan-Ireland relations in various fields.
  3. Events should not advocate any particular principle, ideology or religion. They should not violate public order or standards of decency.
  4. Events should not be mainly profit-oriented.
  5. All costs associated with the event must be fully borne by the organisers.

Benefits of Recognition of the Event

  1. The recognised event will be allowed to use the title of ‘‘the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ireland” as well as the official logo of the 70th anniversary in respective publicity materials (posters, pamphlets, websites, billboards, banners, etc.)
  2. The recognised event will be registered in the official list of events commemorating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ireland. (This will be publicised on the websites of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Embassy of Japan in Ireland, etc.)

How to Apply for Endorsement

  1. All the required documents should be submitted to the Embassy of Ireland in Japan (in the case of events held in Japan), or the Steering Committee (in the case of events held in Ireland) 1 month prior to the date of the planned event.
  2. Upon receipt of the application, the Embassy of Ireland in Japan or the Steering Committee will review the event in accordance with the endorsement criteria.
  3. The Embassy of Ireland in Japan or the Steering Committee, after this review, will notify the applicant of the result in writing and, where appropriate, provide a digital copy of the official logo. An outline of the endorsed event will also be published on the official list of events commemorating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ireland on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Embassy of Japan in Ireland.
  4. Within one week following the completion of the event, please submit several photographs (for use on the Embassy website etc.).
  5. Within three months following the completion of the event, please submit a summary report. (If it is not possible to submit a summary report within three months for organisational reasons, you are required to submit an interim report and an explanation of the reason why it is not possible. A summary report must be submitted when it becomes possible to do so.)

Notes

Any enquiries regarding the screening process will not be responded to.

Should the event be cancelled or in the case of a substantive change which does not comply with the criteria for endorsement, the endorsement may be withdrawn.

The organiser will be fully responsible for all aspects of the event.

All rights relating to the logo, including all rights pertaining to the copyright of the official logo, shall belong to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade of Ireland.
