Japan-Kazakhstan Relations
Meeting between Prime Minister Abe and First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nazarbayev
On October 23, commencing at 1:25 p.m. for approximately 10 minutes, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan had a meeting with H.E. Mr. Nursultan NAZARBAYEV, First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
1. Opening Remarks
Prime Minister Abe welcomed the visit of First President Nazarbayev to Japan and expressed his respect for the achievements of First President Nazarbayev, who has led the country for the last quarter century. Prime Minister Abe stated that his official visit to Kazakhstan in 2015 and the following visit of First President Nazarbayev to Japan in 2016 have stimulated development of the relationship between the two countries in a wide range of fields.
In response, First President Nazarbayev expressed his appreciation for the invitation to the Ceremonies of Accession to the Throne.
2. Bilateral Relations
Prime Minister Abe expressed his appreciation for the start of direct flights between the two countries. He also expected for expansion of people-to-people exchange to further develop economic and business relations, and requested Kazakhstan to prepare better business environments for the sake of development of the economic relationship between the countries.
In response, First President Nazarbayev stated that Kazakhstan has been maintaining close relationship with Japan since its independence and intends to make good conditions that enable Japanese companies to spread their activities in Kazakhstan. He also said that Kazakhstan would like to continue developing bilateral relations in the fields of economy and people-to-people exchange, including those between the Parliamentarians.
He wished for the success of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
3. Regional cooperation and others
First President Nazarbayev extended that Kazakhstan and Japan share the tasks in aiming for a World without Nuclear Weapons. In response, Prime Minister Abe said that Japan intends to cooperate with Kazakhstan to realize the common goal.
In addition, First President Nazarbayev mentioned that the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue promoted by Japan is a significant measure and the two leaders shared the view that the two countries will promote regional cooperation, including further collaboration within the framework.
Prime Minister Abe asked for understanding and supporting for the early resolution of the abductions issue and both sides agreed to continue cooperating on of North Korean issues.
