Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation
2023 Nuclear Suppliers Group Plenary Meeting Buenos Aires, Argentina

On July 13 and 14, 2023, the 32nd Plenary Meeting of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
In its opening statement, Japan referred to the “G7 Leaders' Hiroshima Vision on Nuclear Disarmament (PDF)”, the first leader’s stand-alone document focusing on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation issued at the G7 Hiroshima Summit in 2023. In addition, Japan underscored the significance of the NSG in the NPT regime, and encouraged all states to promote discussions on the Additional Protocol (AP) with the IAEA as a condition of supply in the NSG Guidelines. Furthermore, Japan raised regional concerns such as North Korea's nuclear and missile development, Russia's aggression of Ukraine and the nuclear issue in Iran while it placed the importance on outreaching efforts to enhance the export control capabilities of Asian countries and others to strengthen their nuclear non-proliferation.
