On March 31, from 8:00 a.m. for about 35 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from the members of the International Group of Eminent Persons for a World without Nuclear Weapons (IGEP) who have participated in its sixth meeting.

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister Ishiba, introducing his reflections from past experiences, stated that, under the severe security environment, it is important to work toward a world without nuclear weapons while maintaining a world without nuclear war, and to make relentless efforts as the only country to have suffered atomic bombings during wartime. He then expressed his gratitude and expectations for the efforts of the IGEP in compiling their recommendations.
  2. In response, the IGEP members introduced what has discussed at the sixth meeting of the IGEP, as well as an overview of the recommendations being compiled for the 2026 NPT Review Conference.
