- On 17th -18th March 2011, the Government of Japan and the United Nations University will jointly hold an international conference, “Global Forum on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Education”, in Nagasaki City.
- The major objective of the Forum is to further promote disarmament and non-proliferation education (DNE). It is also aimed at contributing to sharing the importance of DNE, enhancing coordination among national governments, international organizations and those from civil society and their efforts in this field.
- This Forum will cover a wide range of issues regarding nuclear weapons as well as conventional weapons including cluster munitions, small arms and light weapons. It will also engage in an active and constructive discussions about cooperation in this field between governments and civil society, having Japanese and foreign participants with various backgrounds. By using new social network media sources such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter and sending out the messages and information of this event, the Forum attempts to effectively reach out to a wider public. It is expected that these messages and information will be widely used in the field of the DNE even after the event.
