On 23 October, commencing at around 10:00 a.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan met with H. E. Dr. Arif ALVI, President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan on occasion of his visit to Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows. (Mr. OKADA Naoki, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary and others attended from the Japanese side, and H.E. Mr. Imtiaz Ahmad, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Pakistan to Japan, and others attended from the Pakistani side.)

1.In response to Prime Minister Abe’s welcome remarks on President Alvi’s visit to Japan, President Alvi extended his congratulations to the Japanese people and expressed his pleasure to be able to visit Japan on this historic occasion of the enthronement ceremony.

2.With regard to the bilateral relations, while Prime Minister Abe stated that counter-terrorism measures would continue to be important, he also mentioned Japan’s assistance to Pakistan in order to expand investment by Japanese companies. Both sides exchanged views on ways to develop Pakistani economy.

3. The two leaders also exchanged opinions about the situation in East Asia, and Prime Minister Abe requested understanding and support towards an early resolution of the abduction issue.
