On August 20th, commencing at 5:00 p.m. (local time; 8:30 p.m. JST), for approximately 60 minutes (the small group meeting for approximately 30 minutes and the expanded meeting for approximately 30 minutes), Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, during her visit to India, held the 17th Japan-India Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue with H.E. Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India. The overview is as follows.

  1. Ahead of the expanded meeting, Minister Kamikawa engaged in a frank exchange of views with Minister Jaishankar over international affairs from a broad perspective at the small group meeting.
  2. At the expanded meeting, Minister Jaishankar welcomed Minister Kamikawa's visit to India and expressed his desire for cooperation between the two countries in preparation for Prime Minister Modi's visit to Japan under the framework of the annual mutual visit. Minister Kamikawa stated that Japan and India have a great responsibility for the peace and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region and the international society, and Japan would like to fulfill this responsibility in cooperation with India. For this purpose, Minister Kamikawa stated that the further strengthening of bilateral relations is indispensable and that she would like to deepen cooperation between the two countries. Regarding the expansion of human resource exchange and development between Japan and Inda, the two Ministers stated the importance of making efforts based on a medium to long-term strategy, and agreed to discuss the way of cooperation going forward. Furthermore, the two Ministers exchanged views on various issues of the international community, including cooperation on Security Council Reform in anticipation of the Summit of the Future to be held in September this year.
