State Minister HORII giving a greeting at the Ceremony Celebrating the 77th Anniversary of India

On January 26, the Embassy of India in Tokyo hosted a ceremony to celebrate the 77th Republic Day of India. Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended the ceremony and delivered a congratulatory address.

  1. In his remarks, State Minister Horii extended his congratulations and highlighted that the two countries announced the “Japan-India Joint Vision for the Next Decade” on the occasion of the visit to Japan by Prime Minister H.E. Narendra Modi in August last year. He emphasized the importance of building a mutually complementary relationship between the two countries by leveraging their respective strengths in three key areas: security including economic security, economy, investment and innovation, and people-to-people exchanges.
  2. State Minister Horii also noted that, at both the summit and foreign ministerial levels, Japan and India have reaffirmed their cooperation toward realizing a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP). He stated that the two countries are particularly focused on economic security cooperation and achieving growth through innovation.
  3. Furthermore, State Minister Horii mentioned that 2027 will mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and India. He shared that this month, Foreign Minister Motegi and Foreign Minister Jaishankar concurred to designate 2027 as the “75th anniversary of Japan-India diplomatic relations” and to further deepen exchanges between the two countries. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration among the public, private, and academic sectors of both nations to further advance Japan-India cooperation.
