Visit to Miyagi Prefecture by Prime Minister ISHIBA and Prime Minister Modi of India



On Saturday, August 30, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, visited Miyagi Prefecture with H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India. The overview is as follows:
1. Transport on Shinkansen to Sendai
The two leaders received a send-off at Tokyo Station from Indian train drivers who are undergoing training at East Japan Railway Company, and traveled to Sendai Station by Shinkansen. During the Shinkansen ride, they engaged in candid discussions, mainly focusing on railways, including the future of high-speed railway in India, the history, accuracy and safety of Shinkansen of Japan, and the roles the Shinkansen has played to date. The two leaders also received a briefing on the experimental rolling stock, “ALFA-X”, and observed the driver’s cabin of the E5 series Shinkansen, where they experienced its top speed of 320 km/h.
In addition, the two leaders exchanged views on regional affairs.
2. Luncheon Meeting
Prime Minister ISHIBA hosted a luncheon meeting for Prime Minister Modi in Sendai City. The luncheon was attended by Governor MURAI Yoshihiro of Miyagi Prefecture and other guests who have a connection to the Prefecture and the Tohoku region. The two leaders exchanged views on Japan-India cooperation in various areas, including exchanges at the local level.
3. Visit to Tokyo Electron’s Miyagi Plant
The two leaders visited facilities for training and other purposes at the Miyagi plant of Tokyo Electron Limited and received a briefing on the company’s cooperation with India and so forth.
