Meeting between Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA and H.E. Ms. Grace FU Hai Yien, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations of the Republic of Singapore

On May 3, commencing at 2:07p.m. at local time (9:07 p.m. JST) for approximately 10 minutes, Foreign Minister Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, who is attending the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Grace FU Hai Yien, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations of the Republic of Singapore. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Kamikawa expressed her appreciation for Singapore’s remarks representing Hiroshima AI Process Friends Group and its contribution during the Generative AI side event on May 2. Minister Kamikawa also stated that Japan attaches importance to the OECD’s greater cooperation with ASEAN countries, which are the global growth engine, and hopes that the stronger partnership between Singapore and the OECD will contribute to the country's sustainable economic growth.
- In addition, Minister Kamikawa stated that there has been greater exchanges between the two countries at various levels, including the mutual visits by their leaders for two consecutive years. As the two countries will mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2026, Minister Kamikawa also stated that she hopes to further strengthen bilateral relations in a wide range of areas under the leadership of next Prime Minister Wong.
- In response, Minister Fu expressed her appreciation for Japan’s leadership in the Southeast Asia Regional Programme(SEARP). Minister Fu further stated that the OECD has become more inclusive thanks to SEARP, and that Singapre has leant a lot from the OECD’s evidence-based discussions.
- The two Ministers confirmed that they will strengthen Japan-ASEAN cooperation given that Singapre will serve as the ASEAN Country Coordinator for Japan for three years from this summer.
