Courtesy call on Foreign Minister Kamikawa by Mindanao Peace Officials

On August 7, commencing at 9:30 a.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call by The Honorable Carlito G Galvez, Jr, Presidential Advisor on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, the Republic of the Philippines, Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Egrahim, Bangsamoro Transition Authority, and other Mindanao Peace Officials in Tokyo. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Kamikawa stated that Japan has been supporting the Mindanao Peace Process for more than 20 years and that peace in Mindanao is important not only for the Philippines but also for peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. Minister Kamikawa then stated that the Japanese government will provide multifaceted support for the establishment of the new autonomous government (Bangsamoro), which is schedule for next year.
- The Philippine side, in response, expressed their deep appreciation for the Japanese government’s comprehensive support for the Mindanao peace process over the years. Minister Kamikawa pointed out the importance of WPS and human resource development and expressed her hope that Japan’s assistance would contribute to the smooth establishment of the autonomous government (Bangsamoro).
