On August 7, Mr. TSUGE Yoshifumi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended the “JICA Symposium Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the Signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro” hosted by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Tokyo, Japan. The overview is as follows.

  1. Following the opening remarks by Mr. TANAKA Akihiko, President of JICA, State Minister Tsuge delivered a congratulatory speech, in which he expressed his sincere congratulations on the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro in March this year, and expressed his respect for the Philippine side and JICA officials who have been involved in the peace process to date.
  2. Recognizing that stability in Mindanao is essential for peace and prosperity not only for the Philippines but also in the Indo-Pacific region, State Minister Tsuge noted Japan's various efforts to support the Mindanao peace process over the past 20 years, and stated Japan’s intention to continue cooperation for the smooth establishment of the new autonomous government (Bangsamoro).
  3. State Minister Tsuge then noted the importance of people-to-people ties in diplomacy, and stated that the trust between Japan and the Philippines that has been fostered in the Mindanao peace process has been supported by the efforts of many people over the years and by people-to-people ties. He expressed his confidence that cooperation in various areas will contribute to the further development of the remarkably growing friendship between Japan and the Philippines, and wished for the success of the symposium.
