Japan-Vietnam Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On October 27, commencing at 6:15 p.m. local time (7:15 p.m. on October 27, Japan time), for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Malaysia, held a Foreign Ministers’ meeting with H. E. Mr. Le Hoai Trung, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. The overview the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister MOTEGI expressed his gratitude to Minister Trung for the congratulatory message on his appointment. He also conveyed his condolences regarding damage caused by multiple typhoons in Vietnam and stated that the Government of Japan had promptly provided emergency assistance. In response, Minister Trung reiterated his congratulations to Minister MOTEGI on his appointment and extended appreciation for Japan’s sympathy and support in the wake of the typhoon disasters.
- The two Ministers affirmed their intention to further advance the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” and concurred on continuing to enhance cooperation in a broad range of areas, including security and the economy.
- The two Ministers also exchanged views on regional and international affairs and concurred on further strengthening coordination in addressing various issues, including the situations in the East and South China Seas, North Korea, including the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue, the situation in Myanmar, the situation regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border, and the international economy.
