On July 10, commencing at 10:00 a.m. local time (11:00 a.m. JST) for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Malaysia to attend ASEAN-related Foreign Ministers' Meetings, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Bui Thanh Son, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Iwaya expressed his appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to Prime Minister Ishiba during his visit to Viet Nam at the end of April, and stated that he would like to steadily follow up on the outcomes of the summit meeting under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. In response, Deputy Prime Minister Son noted that he is pleased that Japan-Viet Nam relations are been strengthened, and stated that he wishes to further coorperate with Japan as the importance of the bilateral relationship is increasing.
  2. The two ministers concurred on further developing cooperation between the two countries in various areas including high-level exchanges, security and economic cooperation.
  3. The two ministers confirmed that they will work closely together to address a wide range of international issues, such as the East and South China Seas, the situation regarding North Korea including on the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue, the situation in Myanmar, and transnational organized crime including organized fraud and the international economy.
