Japan-Viet Nam Relations
Courtesy Call on Prime Minister Kishida by Ms. Mai, Permanent Member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Organization Commission and Chairperson of the Viet Nam-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Association

On April 2, 2024, commencing at 4:55 p.m., Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from Ms. Truong Thi Mai, Permanent Member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Organization Commission and Chairperson of the Viet Nam-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Association, who is visiting Japan, for approximately 15 minutes. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida expressed his pleasure to be able to meet with Chairperson Mai again. Prime Minister Kishida stated that he wishes to continue to deepen cooperative relations with Viet Nam under the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World”, which was elevated in November 2023, and, in particular, to work together to materialize the cooperation agreed to at the summit level last year. In response, Chairperson Mai stated that Japan is the most important partner for Viet Nam, expressed her appreciation for Japan’s support and stated that, under the new partnership, she intends to make every effort to further develop bilateral relations.
- Prime Minister Kishida expressed his intention to strengthen cooperation to ensure the smooth implementation of ongoing private-sector investment and Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects. In response, Chairperson Mai stated that she intends to contribute to strengthening bilateral economic relations, including in new areas.
- Both sides expressed his intention to realize a free and open international order based on the rule of law, and shared the view to also cooperate in the regional and international arena.
