National referendum on the new draft constitution in Thailand

- The Government of Japan welcomes the fact that, on Sunday, 7 August, the national referendum on the new draft constitution was implemented peacefully without particular turmoil in the Kingdom of Thailand.
- The result of the referendum was officially announced today, and the Government of Japan expects that the process to restore democracy including the election of the parliament will move forward smoothly, under the new constitution approved by this referendum, and that Thailand will continue to contribute stability and development of the region.
- The Government of Japan will continue to provide support for the efforts of Thailand toward restoring democracy as well as to take necessary measures in order to ensure the safety of Japanese people and smooth operation of Japanese enterprises.
