On October 12, commencing at 7:15 p.m. (9:15 p.m. JST) for approximately 80 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, during her visit to Thailand, held a dinner with H.E. Dr. Parnpree Bahiddha-nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand. The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Parnpree reiterated his welcome, and Minister Kamikawa expressed her desire to work together with Thailand to strengthen bilateral relations and further regional stability in this year of the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation.
  2. Minister Kamikawa expressed her desire to strengthen cooperation in the area of Women, Peace, and Security (WPS), taking into account the high level of women's participation in society in Thailand. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Parnpree expressed his support for the WPS initiative and his desire to promote it in cooperation with Japan. Minister Kamikawa stated that Japan continues to explain its position regarding the discharge of ALPS treated water into the sea in a transparent manner based on scientific evidence. In response, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Parnpree stated that there is nothing to worry about and that Thailand consistently supports Japan’s position.
  3. During the dinner, the two ministers agreed to cooperate firmly toward the success of the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit in December. Minister Kamikawa also introduced a book she had purchased on Thailand, and the two ministers talked also about the cultural and social aspects of the two countries in a friendly atmosphere.
