On September 25, at 9:20 a.m. local time (10:20 p.m. JST), for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting New York, U.S. to attend the UN General Assembly Meeting, held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister Iwaya expressed his heartfelt condolences to the victims from the military clashes between Cambodia and Thailand. He expressed his hope that both countries will continue to observe the ceasefire agreement and the tension will be eased peacefully through dialogue, and stated that Japan will continue to make efforts to promote de-escalation of the situation.
  2. They also exchanged their views on cooperation in the economic field and reaffirmed their continued commitment to advancing cooperation that contributes to the promotion of private investment and industrial development, such as “Economic Co-Creation Package”, the development of Sihanoukville Port, the development of the digital field under the “Co-Creation for Common Agenda Initiative”, and the development of core telecommunications networks including 5G.
  3. Furthermore, both ministers concurred to continue to cooperate on a range of regional issues, including the East China Sea and the South China Sea, and their policies toward North Korea including on the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue.
