On March 12, Mr. KIHARA Minoru, Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan, invited guests, including the Ambassadors from Muslim countries to Japan, and hosted “Iftar” (a meal after sunset during the month of Ramadan) at the Prime Minister’s Office.

  1. In his opening remarks, Chief Cabinet Secretary KIHARA, stated that Japan and the Muslim world have long shared the values of "harmony" and "tolerance," and emphasized that strengthening cooperation between Japan and Muslim countries is more important than ever amid the destabilization of the entire international order.
  2. Chief Cabinet Secretary KIHARA also touched upon the current situation in the Middle East, stating that the early de-escalation of the situation is of utmost importance to ensure peace and stability in the region. He expressed Japan’s intention to work closely with the international community including Muslim countries and make all necessary diplomatic efforts towards this goal. He further expressed his hope that this Iftar would serve as an opportunity to deepen the friendship and trust between Japan and Muslim countries.
  3. This year, the Iftar was attended by the representatives of the Embassies and missions to Japan of 48 Muslim countries and regions, as well as others including Japanese Diet members.
