Meeting between Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank

On June 2, commencing at 5:40 p.m. for around 15 minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with Dr. Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank, who is visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Minister Kishida started the meeting by expressing his gratitude to the World Bank, which is serving as a co-organizer of TICAD. He then stated that Japan intends to further cooperate with the World Bank, which is a valuable partner in regard to development, concerning issues such as the post-2015 development agenda and disaster risk management.
- In response, President Kim offered congratulations on the great success of TICAD. He said he was moved to see the manner of the Japanese people embracing Africa, and expressed expectations toward continuing to host further TICAD in Japan onward. In addition, he stated that he wanted to bolster cooperation with Japan particularly on the important issues of health and disaster risk management.
- Minister Kishida explained that Japan has announced a Strategy on Global Health Diplomacy, and stated his hope for further collaboration with the World Bank under the leadership of Dr. Kim. He also welcomed initiatives of the World Bank such as the establishment of a new hub for disaster risk management in Tokyo, and said that he wanted to continue to advance cooperation toward the mainstreaming of disaster risk management in development agenda, through such efforts as the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, which will be held in Sendai in 2015.
