From January 16 to January 18, Mrs. Akie Abe visited the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Kingdom of Thailand and the Republic of Indonesia accompanying Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, where she had various exchanges with many people.

In Vietnam, Mrs. Abe held a meeting with Mrs. Tran Thanh Kiem, spouse of H.E. Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung, Prime Minister of the Social Republic of Vietnam, visited the University of Languages and International studies, Vietnam National University, where she had a meeting with students studying Japanese, and received a courtesy call from the people related to the Hieu Tu B Friends Primary School. In Thailand, she held a meeting with the doctors and nurses of the Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health, and expressed her appreciation for the sending of pediatric healthcare teams at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Also at the Setsatian School for the Deaf, she met with many students who gathered around her. In Indonesia, Mrs. Abe held a meeting with Mrs. Ani Bambang Yudhoyono, spouse of H.E. Dr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of the Republic of Indonesia and expressed her gratitude for the support offered by Indonesia at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake.
