- Under the Agreement between the government of Japan and the government of the United States of Amenrica on Cooperation in Research and Development in Science and Tecnology(the Japan-US Science and Technology Agreement) signed in 1988, the tow countries have enaged in about 160 joint projects in the seven fields listed blow.
(1) Life Sciences, including Biotechnology
(2) Information Science and Technology
(3) Automation and Process Control
(4) Joint Database Development
(5) Global Geoscience and Environment
(6) Advanced Çlaterials, including Superconductors
(7) Other Fields
In addition to these projects, they also cooperate in the exploration and use of outer space development and other multilateral science and tecnology cooperation projects.

(3) Advanced Earth Observing Satellite (ADEOS) Project
