EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL EXCHANGE

Q.
I am studying international relations at a US research institute and we would like to do a joint project with some institution in Japan on bilateral Japan-US relations in the Pacific rim. Is there any financial support available for this type of project?
A.
1.The Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership (CGP) provides support to institutions for intellectual exchange between Japan and the United States.
2.CGP was established in April 1991 to help achieve closer relations between Japan and the United States and to contribute to a better world through the cooperative effort of both countries.
3.CGP has two main purposes:
  • to promote collaboraiton between Japan and the United States with the goal of fulfilling shared global responsibilities and contributing to improvements in the world's welfare;
  • to enhance dialogue and interchange between Japanese and American citizens on a wide range of issues, thereby improving bilateral relations.
4.CGP engages in two major programs to achieve these goals:
  • the promotion of intellectual exchange to encourage global partnership between Japan, the United States, and other nations of the world;
  • the Promotion of mutual understanding at the regional and grass-roots level.
5.In intellectual exchange, CGP provides support for policy-oriented research, intellectual dialogue, and information access. It also sponsors the Abe Fellowship, administered by Social Science Research Council in New York.
6.For further details, contact CGP office in New York (152 West 57th Street, 39th Floor, New York, NY 10019; Tel (212) 489-1255; Fax (212) 489-1344); E-mail:info@cgp.org
