The Japan-United States
Autos and Auto Parts Consultations
Steadfast implementation of the Measures and increased foreign access to the Japanese autos and auto parts market
- Q.
- What about auto parts? I heard that it is another troublesome issue that American manufacturers are facing.
- A.
- U.S. auto parts export to Japan is also expanding. In Japanese FY1994(April, 1994 through March, 1995), the imports of U.S.-made auto parts by Japanese vehicle manufacturers reached US$3.2 billion, growing to 1.7 times the FY1991(April, 1991 through March, 1992) level of US$2 billion. During the first half of Japanese FY1995 (April, 1995 through September, 1995), Japanese automobile manufacturers increased their imports of U.S.-made auto parts by 10% over the same period of the previous year. The amount of imports could rise, if U.S. parts manufacturers make further efforts to sell their competitive products.
