Transport Technology
The aim is to build an overall framework for bilateral cooperation in all fields related to transport, and at the same time, contribute to the development of safe and efficient transport systems in both countries.
Two experts meetings have been held in accordance with the Implementation Agreement concluded in February 1994 between the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Ministry of Transport in Japan. The meetings decided to investigate earthquake strategies for roadways and tunneling methods, and identified the following priority areas for discussion: methods of evaluating new tanker designs; restrictions on marine exhaust emissions; vehicle expressways; trains propelled by magnetic levitation; advanced tunneling technology; transport strategies for elderly and disabled people; automation of transport machinery; earthquake strategies for railroads; earthquake strategies in coastal areas; and the use of IC cards and smart-card technology.
